Hornet Precision Engineering invests in new Hexagon Global S 575 CMM

Hornet Precision Engineering Ltd is pleased to announce the installation of a new Hexagon Global S 575 coordinate measuring machine (CMM) at our facility in South Leicestershire.

The new CMM, running Hexagon’s PC-DMIS software, gives us in-house capability to carry out fast, highly accurate dimensional inspection on the components we machine, rather than relying on manual gauging or sending parts out for third-party measurement. It measures to a volumetric accuracy of a few microns, well within the tolerances typically called up on precision-machined parts, and covers a large enough working envelope to handle everything from small turned components to larger 5-axis milled parts.

Bringing CMM inspection in-house means we can run first-off checks and in-process inspection without adding to lead time, and produce first article inspection reports (FAIR) for customers who need them on new or revised parts. It also gives us full digital traceability, so inspection data and material certification can be provided alongside a delivery whenever it’s required.

The investment strengthens the inspection behind everything we make, from prototype and low-volume work through to established production parts for sectors including motorsport, defence and general engineering.

If you’d like to discuss a project, or would like to see the new CMM in action, get in touch at sales@hornetprecision.co.uk or 07549 406 901.

Hornet Precision Engineering achieves ISO 9001:2015 accreditation

Hornet Precision Engineering Ltd is proud to announce that we have achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems.

The certification confirms that our processes, from initial quote through to final delivery, meet a consistent, independently audited standard of quality control. It covers how we plan and run jobs, control our documentation and processes, manage suppliers and materials, and continuously review and improve the way we work.

Since starting out as Hornet CNC Services in 2018 and establishing our own manufacturing facility in South Leicestershire in 2020, we’ve grown from providing CNC programming and machining support to running a full in-house precision machining operation, working across sectors including motorsport, oil and gas, defence and general engineering. Formal ISO 9001:2015 accreditation is the next step in that growth, giving customers structured assurance that quality is built into every stage of how we operate, not just checked at the end.

A copy of our ISO 9001:2015 certificate is available on our website. If you’d like to discuss how our quality system can support your next project, contact us at sales@hornetprecision.co.uk or 07549 406 901.

Hornet Precision Engineering adds Mazak VARIAXIS j-500/5X

Hornet Precision Engineering Ltd has invested in a Mazak VARIAXIS j-500/5X simultaneous 5-axis machining centre at our South Leicestershire facility.

The j-500/5X combines a rigid spindle with a high-accuracy rotary/tilt table, allowing complex parts to be machined from multiple sides in a single setup. That means fewer manual repositions, tighter control over accuracy between features, and shorter lead times on the kind of multi-sided components that would otherwise need several operations.

The new machine adds simultaneous 5-axis capability to our existing milling capacity, giving customers more options for complex prismatic work across the sectors we serve, including motorsport, defence and general engineering.

If you have a complex 5-axis component you’d like to discuss, get in touch at sales@hornetprecision.co.uk or 07549 406 901.

Hornet Precision Engineering adds CMZ TA20Y with bar feeder

Hornet Precision Engineering Ltd has expanded its turning capacity with the addition of a CMZ TA20Y CNC lathe, fitted with a bar feeder, at our facility in South Leicestershire.

The TA20Y is a Y-axis turning centre with live tooling, giving us the ability to mill, drill and tap features directly on the lathe rather than moving parts to a second machine. Combined with the bar feeder, it lets us run longer batches of turned components unattended, feeding stock automatically and keeping cycle times consistent from the first part to the last.

This adds to our existing turning and milling capability, giving customers a wider range of options for prismatic and turned components, in low volumes or longer production runs.

If you have a turned component project in mind, get in touch at sales@hornetprecision.co.uk or 07549 406 901.

Machine Launch

Introducing the latest addition to Hornet Precision Engineering…

We have recently taken delivery of our new Doosan Lynx 2100 LYA CNC Turning Centre. This machine is  able to produce high-precision, complex parts with intricate features and is widely used to machine aerospace, oil and gas, power generation, motorsport, automotive,
medical components to high accuracies and exacting surface finish requirements.

This latest investment marks an exciting phase of our continued growth, enabling us to not only increase production but also reduce the cost per part.
